Our Aston Martin V8 Vantage ECU tune was developed on the dyno in a controlled environment and validated in a variety of conditions during more than a year of testing. Most importantly, we prioritize reliability over all other factors, which has resulted in uniquely noticeable, repeatable improvements. Behavior can be categorized as “OEM plus”- ideal for both stock and lightly modified naturally aspirated engines. Typical power gain with our tune is approximately 25 whp. As with our other ECU tunes, every calibration has been developed by a licensed professional engineer. Some of our improvements are as follows:

RPM Limit Increase. A mild increase in rpm limit allows the driver to enjoy the mechanical advantage of a lower gear for a greater period, and an upshift at redline puts the car deeper into the powerband of the next gear. The V8 Vantage is cammed for top-end power and truly benefits from a safe increase in the rev limiter.

Ignition Timing Advance. During development, we closely monitored for knock while tuning ignition timing advance for optimum power.

AFR/Lambda. The V8 Vantage is tuned to run excessively rich from the factory. In addition to contributing to poor efficiency, the extra fuel takes the place of power-generating oxygen in the combustion chamber; oxygen sensor and spark plug life are reduced; oil is quickly contaminated from the excess fuel; catalytic converters run hotter; and wear is generally accelerated. Our tune corrects the deficiencies of the factory calibration and safely increases performance.

Torque Request. The OEM torque request tables artificially limit the throttle body from fully opening, which reduces power available at full throttle. We optimize the ECU’s torque-related parameters to ensure the throttle body opens completely with the driver’s demand, and we apply tweaks to sharpen response without the pedal feeling overly sensitive.

Proprietary Improvements. Part- and full-throttle power are greatly improved, as is midrange torque. With a Severn Tuning calibration, your car will perform more like a 4.7 than a 4.3 V8.


What is flash tuning?

Also known as ‘remapping’ and ‘flashing’, flash tuning involves calibrating the parameters of the engine’s “brain”- the Engine Control Unit (ECU). When the engine’s hardware is modified, the ECU must be calibrated or tuned.

Vehicles rarely come fully optimized for performance from the factory. There are many reasons for this:

  1. Model hierarchy. This is the most common reason an engine is artificially restrained via tuning. Multiple vehicle models in a manufacturer’s range will utilize the same modular engine to save development costs. To maintain model hierarchy, manufacturers use various states of tune to limit models that are lower on the totem pole. An ECU tune can unlock this extra power.
  2. Extend an engine’s life cycle. This allows manufacturers to release mid-cycle refreshes with slightly more power and push owners to trade in their older vehicles for new models.
  3. Emissions. Variable valve timing can be manipulated to work as a pseudo-EGR and recycle spent exhaust gasses. However, if a cylinder fills 10% of its volume with spent exhaust gasses, the engine will perform like it has 10% less displacement.
  4. Varying environments. Factory tuning is usually conservative to account for the variety of environments in which the engine will be operated. At Severn Tuning, we use data logs from the customer’s vehicle to optimize it for the exact environment in which the vehicle is driven.

Flash tuning is separate from coding and diagnostics. It will not solve underlying mechanical or electronic issues, and in some cases, it can make problems worse. We highly recommend you consider tuning to be a final ECU calibration and the very last step when optimizing your vehicle.


How does it work?

After purchase, we will contact you for information about your vehicle's build and setup so that we can begin developing your base file. We will send you a link to download our Severn Tuning Flasher software and detailed installation instructions. We will also mail you a Severn Tuning Flasher unit. The Severn Tuning Flasher allows you to download the stock file from your car and write modified files you have purchased from us. We will email you revisions of your tune as necessary, which can be loaded onto your Severn Tuning Flasher as needed.

  1. Connect the Severn Tuning Flasher to your vehicle’s OBD port and extract a copy of the stock file located in the ECU.
  2. Send the stock original file to Severn Tuning for your custom file modification.
  3. Load your TUNED file into your Severn Tuning Flasher from your PC with the supplied USB cables, and then you are ready to flash the modified file back into your ECU via the OBD port.

What is included?

You will need a computer that meets the minimum system requirements (see below). We provide everything else you will need to install the tune on your vehicle! We do not nickel and dime our customers by charging for a tune, and then additionally charging extra for the hardware and software necessary to put the tune on the vehicle. The only thing a customer needs to provide is a computer which meets minimum hardware requirements. Each purchase is inclusive of the software and hardware needed to apply the tuning changes to the vehicle. This includes:

  2. Severn Tuning Flasher software
  3. All necessary cables
  4. Shipping


What is Severn Tuning Flasher?

Severn Tuning Flasher is a handheld, touchscreen flash tuner ("programmer") that allows the end user to:

  • Read the ECU’s stock file
  • Write tuned files provided by Severn Tuning
  • Read and clear diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs)

Read/write capability in Severn Tuning Flasher is VIN-locked to a single vehicle.
